Android Tings (Android ThingsIs an operating system for smart home management that is not welcomed and, like many Google services, will be shut down.
Google’s smart home project, called Brilloux, was launched in 2015 and was set to become the IoT operating system. In 2016, Google changed the name of this service to “Android Tings”. The operating system was supposed to be installed on devices such as speakers, security cameras and even routers, and because it was based on Android, it was easy to develop.
The progress of this project did not go well. In 2018, only a few speakers and a few screens with this operating system went on the market. No company seems to be interested in using this operating system.
Google announced in 2019 that it will use Android Tings in smart speakers; But nearly two years later, Android Tings is shutting down. On January 5, 2021, developers will no longer have access to the Android Tings console. One year later, on January 5, 2022, this console will be completely out of reach and its data will be deleted. In fact, developers have two years to back up their data.
This project has had almost nothing to offer during the last 5 years.
