The Covid 19 virus enters the brain

Banks and his team observed the reaction in HIV and wanted to see if the same thing happened with SARS CoV-2. Banks says the S1 protein in SARS-CoV2 virus and the gp120 protein in HIV-1 infection have similar functions. They are glycoproteins that are prominent features of proteins that bind to other receptors. Glycoproteins are proteins that have a lot of sugars on their surface. These proteins act like clusters of viruses and attach to other receptors. Both cross the blood-brain barrier, and S1, like gp120, is probably toxic to brain tissue.

Banks has done a lot of research on HIV-1 and the gp120 protein and the blood-brain barrier. “It was like acquaintance,” he says. Banks Laboratory is studying the blood-brain barrier in Alzheimer’s, obesity, diabetes and HIV; But they stopped their research, and in April, all 15 people in the lab began testing the S1 protein. The new study could explain many of the side effects of Covid 19. Banks says:
